5-Methylgramine is a centrally acting adrenergic (5-HT) receptor antagonist that is used for the treatment of allergic disorders and as an antiemetic. It has been shown to be effective in treating allergic rhinitis, urticaria, and pruritus. 5-Methylgramine blocks the binding of 5-hydroxytryptamine at the peripheral 5-ht receptors and also antagonizes the action of endogenous or exogenous histamine at central 5-ht receptors. It has been shown to have a maximal effect on the constrictor responses mediated by the adventitia in guinea pigs. The drug can be given orally or intravenously.
