6-Methoxy-2-benzoxazolinone is a substance that has been shown to inhibit epidermal growth factor (EGF) by binding to the extracellular domain of EGF receptor. This leads to a decrease in cell proliferation and a decrease in the expression of genes involved in protein synthesis. In vitro assays have shown that 6-methoxy-2-benzoxazolinone inhibits the activity of sodium carbonate, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, and cyclase enzymes. It also inhibits the activity of detoxification enzymes such as cytochrome P450 and glutathione S transferase.
