- 4-Phosphonylanisole
4-Methoxyphenylphosphonic acid (4mPPA) is a phosphonic acid with anti-inflammatory properties. It has been shown to inhibit the production of TNF-α, an inflammatory cytokine, by interfering with the enzyme that produces it. 4mPPA also inhibits the activity of aminotransferases and decreases levels of creatinine in the blood, which may be due to its ability to inhibit oxidative stress. 4mPPA binds to perovskite crystals and inhibits IL-10, a cytokine involved in inflammation. This compound also reduces plasma levels of C-reactive protein, an inflammatory marker. 4mPPA is used as a coating on medical devices such as catheters and implants to prevent infection.
