Methyl 4-nitrobenzoate is a diazonium salt that is used in the synthesis of other compounds. It is a colorless, crystalline solid that has a weakly acidic character with a pH of 2.5. The reaction between methyl 4-nitrobenzoate and hydrochloric acid produces nitrous acid, water, and methyl benzoate. This compound has significant antifungal activity against Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae in vitro.
