4-Methylpyridinium chloride is a coordination compound that is made up of one 4-methylpyridine molecule and one chloride ion. It forms a supramolecular cavity with the aluminium atom, which can be used to form complexes with ligands. This coordination compound has been synthesised from the reaction of 4-methylpyridine and aluminium chloride in solvents such as ethanol. The formation of this coordination compound is enhanced by the presence of ligands, which are required for its stability.
