Methyl 2-chloronicotinate is an amide, bicyclic heterocycle, synthetic, expressed, pharmaceutical preparation. It has chloride as its isomeric form. Methyl 2-chloronicotinate has hydrogen bond with carbohydrate and is tautomeric in the hydrogen chloride form. This compound also acts as a cholinesterase inhibitor and is used to treat myasthenia gravis. The drug blocks the enzyme acetylcholinesterase at the neuromuscular junction, allowing for increased levels of acetylcholine in the synapse. This leads to increased muscle strength and reduced muscle fatigue.
Methyl 2-chloronicotinate also has dyskinesia as a side effect when used in high doses.
