2-(4-Nitrophenoxy)acetamide is a cytotoxic agent that was originally synthesized for cancer treatment. It is a potent inhibitor of topoisomerases I and II, which are enzymes essential to DNA replication. The crystal structure of 2-(4-Nitrophenoxy)acetamide has been determined. This compound exhibits significant cytotoxicity in cancer cell lines and potentiates the efficacy of other agents in cancer therapy. 2-(4-Nitrophenoxy)acetamide also inhibits connective tissue cells, which can lead to tumor regression.
