Descrição:5,12-Naphthacenequinone is a fluorescent organic compound that contains methoxy groups. It is used as an analytical reagent for the detection of sodium and chlorine atoms in gas chromatography. 5,12-Naphthacenequinone can be prepared by reacting trifluoroacetic acid with dextran sulfate and sodium carbonate. The reaction mechanism of this compound is not well understood but it has been shown to have antifungal activity in vitro. This compound also has photochemical properties that give it potential use in light-emitting diodes. 5,12-Naphthacenequinone was developed for chronic exposure studies because its solubility in water is limited. Matrix effects were observed during this study because the compound binds to the surface of the matrix and cannot penetrate it as easily as other compounds.
