5-Norbornene-2-yl acetate is a monomer that is used in the production of polymers. It has been shown to have viscosity, monitoring and kinetic properties. The 5-norbornene-2-yl acetate molecule is a linear chain of six carbons, with three double bonds on each end. This compound can be polymerized by ring opening reactions to form polymers with varying degrees of crosslinking and molecular weight. The formation of the copolymer depends on the type of catalyst used in the reaction and the temperature at which it is carried out. 5-Norbornene-2-yl acetate can be copolymerized with ethylene to produce elastomers. This monomer has been found to react with methyl palmitate in order to synthesize a ligand for use in palladium complexes.
