It has been shown to be a potent growth factor for skin cells and may have potential as an anticancer drug. Nonacosanoic acid has been shown to inhibit colorectal carcinoma by suppressing the growth of tumor cells. This compound also induces neurodevelopmental changes in wild-type mice, such as changes in brain weight, behavior, and neurotransmitter levels. Nonacosanoic acid has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may be useful for treatment of inflammatory diseases and cancer.
