4-Nitro-L-phenylalanine hydrate is a chemical compound that has been shown to have antidiabetic properties. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of several medicines, including 4-nitrophenyl ester, which is used as a lead compound for the synthesis of other drugs. The reaction product of 4-nitro-L-phenylalanine hydrate with methyl chloride produces methyl ester and leads to the production of L-phenylalanine monohydrate. The synthesis method is high yielding and can be carried out under mild conditions. The reactivity of this compound with sodium sulfate has also been studied and its use in medicine has been proposed.
