(R,S)-Norcotinine is a matrix effect that is used to study the effects of various agents on the metabolism of cotinine. The compound can act as a metabolic rate inhibitor and has shown to be cytotoxic in human serum. It has been shown to be an effective enzyme inhibitor and can cause cancer in animals. (R,S)-Norcotinine is also used for the preparation of samples for clinical pathology, as well as for studying glucuronide conjugates. This compound is not active against nicotine.
