4-Nitro-2,3-xylenol is the chemical compound with molecular formula C6H5NO2Cl. It is a reaction product of benzyl chloride and sodium nitrite. The chemical can be used to synthesise nitrophenols and nitrates. 4-Nitro-2,3-xylenol is an oxidising agent that reacts with tautomers and crystallizing substances to produce nitrites, nitrates, aliphatic ketoacids, and other derivatives. It is also a reagent for the synthesis of aromatic amines.
