4-Nitro-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzenol is a hydrophobic chemical compound. It has been used as a reactant in the synthesis of other chemicals, such as 2-fluoro-5-nitrobenzotrifluoride and hexadecanoic acid. 4-Nitro-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzenol has been shown to exist in two different forms, depending on the solvent it is dissolved in. In aqueous solvents, it exists as an unstable solution that can be converted to an insoluble form by adding camphor. The addition of camphor changes the surface properties of 4-Nitro-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzenol, which promotes the conversion from one isomer to another.
