Nipecotic acid is a chiral, organic compound with two forms: the (S) form and the (R) form. The S-form is also known as nipecotic acid, while the R-form is also known as (+)-nipecotic acid or (-)-nipecotic acid. The S-form is an ester that can be prepared by reacting acetyl chloride and hexamethylenetetramine in an organic solvent. It has been used in the synthesis of alkyl esters, such as acetylcholine, hexamer, and monomer. Nipecotic acid has been shown to have anticholinergic properties as well as inhibitory effects on aminergic neurotransmission.
