It is an aromatic compound with a sulfonic acid group and has the molecular formula C13H12O8S2Na2. 1-Naphthol-3,6-disulfonic acid disodium salt can be used as a colorant for paper and textiles. The compound is also used in manufacturing polyester resins, which are used in such items as plastic film and fiberglass insulation. This compound is thermally stable and can be manufactured at high temperatures. Polymerization initiators such as rhenium are often added to speed up the polymerization process.
