5-(4-Nitrophenyl)-1H-tetrazole is a diphenyl sulfoxide compound that can be synthesized using solid-phase synthesis. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by acting as an electron donor, which inhibits the activity of bacterial enzymes. 5-(4-Nitrophenyl)-1H-tetrazole has a chloride anion that binds to the active site of the enzyme and reacts with a chloride ion present in the enzyme's environment, forming a complex that is stabilized by the formation of a six-membered ring. Crystal x-ray diffraction techniques have been used to study this complex. The reaction time for 5-(4-nitrophenyl)-1H-tetrazole is dependent on temperature and carbon tetrachloride concentration.
