5-Nitro-1H-indazole-3-carboxylic acid is a synthetic compound that can be prepared via the nitration of 5-nitroindazole and subsequent esterification. It is a chloride that is used in coupling reactions, as well as an esterification reagent. This compound has been used to synthesize diethylaminoethylchloride and ethylchloroformate. 5NICA has been shown to be radiosensitizer for x-ray treatment. The crystal structure of 5NICA has been determined using single crystal XRD, showing a rhombic unit cell with space group P2(1)/n. The molecular formula for 5NICA is C6H4ClNO2, with a molecular weight of 219.8 g/mol and a melting point of 147°C.
