Nonadecafluoro-1-decanol (NDFA) is a hydrofluorocarbon that belongs to the perfluorinated chemical group. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to the bacteriochlorophyll receptor α, which is located on the outer membrane of these microorganisms. NDFA inhibits bacterial photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Experiments with NDFA have shown that it can bind to monolayers and polymerase chains, which may be due to its bifunctional properties.
