Neocurdione is a natural product that is isolated from the rhizome of Curcuma aromatica. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect against human pathogens, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Helicobacter pylori. Neocurdione also inhibits the growth of cancer cells in vitro by blocking protein synthesis and inducing apoptosis. In addition, neocurdione has been shown to have a protective effect on the liver in animal models, which may be due to its ability to inhibit peroxisomal beta-oxidation. The structure of neocurdione consists of a hydroxyl group attached to a curcumene skeleton. This molecule also contains a hydroxy group and carbonyl group, which are bioactive phytochemicals found in other plants such as trichophyton mentagrophytes and isocurcumenol. Neocurdione can be separated using chromatographic methods based on its hydroxyl group.
