5-Nitro-2,3,4-trifluorobenzoic acid is an industrial chemical that can be synthesized by the ammonolysis of formic acid. 5-Nitro-2,3,4-trifluorobenzoic acid is a precursor in the synthesis of binimetinib. This compound has been shown to react with chlorinating agents to produce the corresponding chlorinated derivatives. The sequence of reactions can be summarized as follows: diazotisation → formylation → phosphorylation → hydrolysis → nitration. The final product is obtained through a deprotection reaction with ammonium hydroxide and formic acid.
