This compound has been shown to protect against ischemic brain damage and to inhibit the activation of autophagy, which may be due to its effects on mitochondrial membrane potential. Nalpha-[(Benzyloxy)Carbonyl]-N-(4-Fluoro-3-Oxo-2-Butanyl)Phenylalaninamide has also been shown to inhibit viral life cycles and microbial infections by inhibiting protease activity. It can be used as a model system for group P2 toll-like receptor signaling, which may lead to new drug targets for treating ischemic brain damage or other diseases with mitochondrial dysfunction.
