4-Oxo-4-piperidin-1-ylbutanoic acid (OPB) is a switchable amide that can be switched between its two forms, the hydrophobic and the hydrophilic. The transition temperature of OPB is determined by the ratio of isopropyl groups to piperidine groups. OPB has been shown to have a number of functions, such as responsive materials, magnetic materials, and hydrophobic materials. It has also been used in the synthesis of dextran and carbodiimide.
