6-Oxa-3-thiabicyclo[3.1.0]hexane 3,3-dioxide (TBCH) is a nucleophile that can be used in organic synthesis to form new carbon-carbon bonds. TBCH reacts with alcohols, anions, and amines to form cyclic compounds with or without stereochemical control. TBCH also forms homochiral compounds and can be used to distinguish between enantiomers due to its nonpolar nature. The mechanism of TBCH is rationalized by the formation of a nucleophilic intermediate that attacks the electrophilic substrate, resulting in the formation of a new carbon-carbon bond.
