2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5-Octafluoro-Pentanal is a hydroboration product that is used in the synthesis of analogs of insect pheromones. It has been shown to be an effective insecticide against the larvae of Brassica and other insects. 2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5-Octafluoro-Pentanal is also used as an intermediate in the preparation of acetates containing a pheromone structure. Its use as an insecticide may be due to its ability to interfere with the production of sex hormones and pheromones that are essential for mating or reproduction.
