Methyl piperidine-2-carboxylate is a stable complex that is used as a diagnostic agent for solid tumours and infectious diseases. It generates hydroxyl group which can be detected by fluorescence spectroscopy. In addition, methyl piperidine-2-carboxylate has been shown to have high specificity for the eye and diabetic neuropathy. The compound has also been shown to have anti-tumour effects on prostate cancer cells in vitro. This product is an enantiopure derivative of amide, which is synthesized from methyl 4-phenylbutanoate and ammonia. Methyl piperidine-2-carboxylate reacts with the reaction solution to form a fluorescent derivative in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. The kinetic parameters are determined by measuring the time taken for complete conversion of substrate to product at different concentrations of H2O2.
