1H,1H-Pentafluoropropyl methacrylate is a hydrophobic monomer with fluorine substitutions. It can be used in the preparation of polymers that have high surface energy and low surface tension. The solubility parameters of 1H,1H-pentafluoropropyl methacrylate are similar to those of vinyl alcohol and acrylamide. This monomer has been shown to be nontoxic to fibroblast cells in biological studies. 1H,1H-Pentafluoropropyl methacrylate has been used as a primer for polymer films and as a coating on optical surfaces.
