The peptide has been shown to bind to kappa opioid receptors and δ opioid receptors, which are both involved in pain regulation. H-D-Phe-Cys-Tyr-D-Trp-Orn (HDFYDT) has been shown to be effective in vivo, which may be due to its ability to increase striatal dopamine levels and decrease locomotor activity.
