2-Pyrrolidin-1-ylisonicotinic acid (2PICA) is a pyrethroid that has been detected in human urine samples. 2PICA is an insecticide that inhibits the activity of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which leads to paralysis and death. It has been shown to be active against 3-chloro-7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin (3C7MC), a carbamate pesticide, with recoveries ranging from 76% to 98%. The methodologies used were validated by comparing results with those obtained by liquid chromatography (LC) analysis of pesticides in human urine. The LC method was found to be more sensitive than the methods using 3C7MC and nicotine as parameters. 2PICA was not found in women's urine samples.
