4-(Piperazin-1-ylacetyl)morpholine is a calibration standard that is used as a marker for amniotic fluid and amniotic homogenates. It is also used to quantify the transfer of drugs across the placenta and into maternal milk. 4-(Piperazin-1-ylacetyl)morpholine has been shown to be toxic in rats, causing changes in liver function, kidney function, and brain weight. This drug has also been shown to have effects on the lactation process, with reduced milk production and delayed onset of lactation. The toxicology of 4-(piperazin-1-ylacetyl)morpholine has not been studied in humans.
