- 2-phenyl-2-phenylpyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid
2-Phenylproline is a synthetic compound that is used as a peptidomimetic. This structure has been shown to activate phase transfer catalysis, which is an intramolecular reaction that occurs in the presence of a solvent. 2-Phenylproline also has a pyrrolidine ring, which can be synthesized by reacting phenylacetaldehyde with nitroethane and sodium hydroxide. The conformationally flexible 2-phenylproline molecule can be synthesized in two different forms: one with the amino acid proline at the N-terminus and one with proline at the C-terminus.
