3-Pyridin-4-ylpropan-1-ol is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the cell wall and blocking the synthesis of proteins. This chemical has been shown to effectively kill gram-negative bacteria, such as Proteus vulgaris, and is a potential candidate for use in disinfecting drinking water. 3-Pyridin-4-ylpropan-1-ol has also been shown to inhibit radiation damage to DNA. It is considered a strong alkylating agent that can be used for covalent immobilization or crosslinking with other molecules.
