5-Phenylnicotinic acid is a chemical inhibitor that inhibits proteolytic activity by binding to the active site of the enzyme. It is used as a research tool for studying the mechanism of proteolysis and in cancer research. 5-Phenylnicotinic acid has been shown to inhibit bone resorption, which may be due to its ability to bind to α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and allosterically modulate their function. This drug also increases the production of acetylcholine from acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, thereby increasing the efficacy of drugs such as mda-mb-231 breast cancer.
