Potassium 2-methoxyethanolate is a hydrophilic compound that can be used for the synthesis of methacrylates with copolymerization. It has been shown to inhibit atherogenesis in mice by reducing the level of hydroxyl groups in their serum, which are associated with cholesterol oxidation. The particles of potassium 2-methoxyethanolate are spherical and have a diameter of approximately 1 μm. They can be synthesized using organic solvents and terminated by either an acid or base. The lipid nanoparticles formed from potassium 2-methoxyethanolate are lipoproteins that also contain phospholipids and cholesterol.
