It is biosynthesized from phenylethyl alcohol and picolinic acid via the copper complex of an amine. 1-(Pyridin-2-yl)ethanol has been shown to have therapeutic effects on cardiovascular disorders, such as high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, and heart failure. The mechanism of action of 1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethanol is still not well understood, but it may be due to inhibition of the formation of nitric oxide at the endothelial level.
