4-Pyridinone is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water. It has a molecular weight of 124.12 and an empirical formula of C5H6N2O. 4-Pyridinone can be obtained by decarboxylation of pyridine, hydrolysis of 4-aminopyridine, or condensation of c1-4 alkyl with dicarboxylic acid. The compound is used industrially as a dicarboxylic acid for the production of polyurethane and polyester resins.
