Phoxim is a pesticide that inhibits the growth of insects and other arthropods by binding to the active site of a protein. Phoxim has been shown to be effective against various pests in vitro, including the cotton bollworm, tobacco budworm, beet armyworm, and rice leafhopper. The rate constant for phoxim is determined by optical sensors and colloidal gold as well as analytical methods such as gas chromatography and matrix effects. The pesticide has also been shown to have an effect on plant metabolism, with studies showing that it can affect energy metabolism in plants. The molecular mechanism for this activity is not yet known but may involve interactions with ribosomes or DNA.
