Phenethylsalicylate is an organic compound that is a cardiac glycoside. Phenethylsalicylate has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including some strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It has been found to be effective in the treatment of vaginal candidiasis. Phenethylsalicylate binds to the estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) with high affinity, and it may also bind to other steroid receptors such as ERβ. The structural formula for phenethylsalicylate is C9H7O3S.
