3-Pyrrolidineethanol is a hydrogenating agent that functions as an antagonist of the NMDA receptor. 3-Pyrrolidineethanol has been shown to have anti-psychotic properties, and is used in the treatment of schizophrenia. It is hypothesized that this drug may work by blocking the NMDA receptor, which would prevent glutamate from binding and activating the receptor. This prevents glutamate from causing excitatory neurotransmission, which could result in a reduction of symptoms related to schizophrenia.
