Prunetin-4'-glucoside is a natural product that has been shown to be cytotoxic towards the MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell line. It is extracted from the root of the plant Pueraria lobata, which is also known as kudzu. Prunetin-4'-glucoside induces apoptosis in cancer cells by modulating the expression of Bax and p53 proteins and inhibiting the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and proteins. The apoptotic process may be mediated by activation of caspase 3, which cleaves poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP). This compound also inhibits tumor growth in vivo through inhibition of angiogenesis. Prunetin-4'-glucoside is structurally related to amygdalin, a glycosidic bond found in plants that is converted into hydrogen cyanide when ingested. The genus Cerasus contains two species: one with edible
