4-Phenylcyclohexanone is a chiral compound that is used as a ligand in asymmetric synthesis. It is the product of the hydrogenation of phenylcyclohexanol by catalytic reduction with dilithium. The carbonyl group in 4-phenylcyclohexanone undergoes two reactions: dehydration and Friedel-Crafts acylation. This compound has been shown to be useful for the synthesis of glyoxylate from glyoxylic acid, which can then be converted to oxalic acid. 4-Phenylcyclohexanone also participates in a number of other chemical reactions, including Friedel-Crafts acylation and transfer reactions.
