Phenylphosphonic dichloride is an organophosphorus compound that inhibits the activity of enzymes such as DPP-IV, which are involved in the digestion and metabolism of proteins. It has been shown to be effective against inflammatory bowel disease, with significant improvements in response. Phenylphosphonic dichloride also has pharmacokinetic properties that are different from other enzyme inhibitors. It is resistant to metabolic degradation by esterases and has a low volume of distribution. This means that the drug stays longer in the blood stream than other drugs.
