Potassium deuteroxide is a chemical compound that has been used to study the effect of deuterium isotope on the reaction mechanism and stability of fatty acids. The kinetic data obtained from this study show that the reaction rate constant increases in the presence of deuterium isotope. This increase can be explained by a decrease in proton transfer, which is due to hydrogen bonding between the two protons. Potassium deuteroxide also has been shown to have an effect on energy metabolism and uptake in women.
