3-Pyrrolidinamine dihydrochloride (3PD) is a synthetic drug that has been shown to have antimicrobial activity. 3PD has been shown to be effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 3PD also inhibits the growth of some fungi, such as Candida albicans. The chemical structure of 3PD includes an amine group and three pyrrolidine rings. This novel compound is able to inhibit the synthesis of proteins in bacterial cells by inhibiting ribosomal translation on the mRNA level. It also inhibits the growth of certain fungi by preventing the synthesis of their cell wall proteins. 3PD was synthesized by reacting α-aminopropionitrile with sodium cyanide in a high-salt solution at room temperature in an acidic environment.
