(R)-Pyrrolidin-2-ylmethanamine is a piperazine derivative that inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the enzyme RNA polymerase II, which is involved in the transcription of DNA to messenger RNA (mRNA). It also has anti-tumour activity and can be used for treating cancer. This compound has been shown to inhibit leukemia cells in vitro by blocking protein synthesis. In vivo antitumor effects were observed in mice with L1210 leukemia when administered orally. (R)-Pyrrolidin-2-ylmethanamine also has synergistic effects with adriamycin, an anthracycline antibiotic, and can activate mammalian cells without inducing cell death. The activation energy for this compound is high at 4 kcal/mol, making it difficult to hydrolyze under physiological conditions.
