Phenylphosphinic acid is a white crystalline solid that can be found in the form of its anhydride, phenylphosphinic anhydride. It is soluble in water and alcohols, but insoluble in ether. Phenylphosphinic acid is used as a reactant in the production of plastics and dyes. The analytical method for determining the concentration of this chemical is based on the reaction mechanism between phenylphosphinic acid and hydrogen peroxide. This reaction produces phosphoric acid, which can be determined by titration with sodium hydroxide solution. Phenylphosphinic acid has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, due to its ability to inhibit xanthine oxidase activity.
