Descrição:Pentachlorophenol sodium is a chemical that belongs to the group of phenols. It is used in the production of polymers, plastics, and textiles. Pentachlorophenol sodium is also used as a biocide in water-treatment plants, as an herbicide, and as an insecticide. In vitro studies have shown that pentachlorophenol sodium has genotoxic activity and can affect mitochondrial membrane potential. Furthermore, it showed toxicity to human blood cells and to mitochondria from rat liver tissue. The analytical method for pentachlorophenol sodium has been established by using solid phase microextraction (SPME) with laser ablation (LA). This technique was applied to measure the concentration of pentachlorophenol sodium in water samples. Pentachlorophenol sodium has also been shown to inhibit photosynthetic activity in spinach leaves when exposed at low concentrations.
