6-Phenylphenathridine-3,8-diamine is a drug that inhibits the DPP-IV enzyme, which is involved in the processing of proteins. It has been shown to be effective against drug resistant cells and cervical cancer cells. 6-Phenylphenathridine-3,8-diamine binds to single stranded DNA and prevents the formation of a supercoiled structure by binding to the minor groove of the DNA helix. This binding causes an increase in affinity ligands and dna duplexes that have a crystalline structure. The optical properties of this compound are due to its naphthalene ring system.
