Phthalimidoacetaldehyde is a hydroxy substituted compound. It has been used as a diagnostic agent, and is also an active ingredient of an antiviral drug. It is used to treat infections, such as aneurysm, infectious diseases, and cancer. Phthalimidoacetaldehyde has also been shown to inhibit insulin resistance in human serum. This compound can be synthesized by reacting hydroxamic acid with phthalic anhydride or hydrochloric acid in the presence of ammonia gas. The resulting compound can then be reacted with a linker and heterocycle to form the desired product.!--end-->
