Descrição:Propentofylline is a drug that has been shown to be neuroprotective in experimental models of stroke and brain injury. It inhibits glutamate-induced neuronal death by inhibiting the activation of nuclear DNA, leading to suppression of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling pathways. It also decreases activity in cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases, which are enzymes involved in the regulation of cellular energy metabolism. Propentofylline increases microglial motility, which may be due to its ability to increase neurotrophic factors such as basic fibroblast growth factor and nerve growth factor.
